Dan, my father, has been carving carousel horses for over 20 years. He has sold over 40 different ones over the years. Here is a collection of some of the ones that he has sold. As an artist of many areas, this craft by far is one of the most unique. Each animal is made just as the master carvers did dating back to the early 1900's. Bass wood is used for carving as it is a softer wood that has few knots. The body is left hollow just as the antique horses found on Carousels. Each full size horse takes over 3 months to complete, working 8 hrs a day and 40 hrs a week. Both of my parents are talented in so many ways that I know I am lucky to be able to say that I am an artist too, thanks to them. I am so proud of them both and wish everyone could be so lucky to have parents like mine.
